There is a popular quote used in today’s educational talk, which I admire. It goes like this “If you think the price of education is expensive, try the price of ignorance. You pay for ignorance everyday for the rest of your life.” In these days that we are living in due to the competitive world, it is not just about obtaining a primary and or a secondary education and that is it for school. The value of a university education is immeasurable. A university education equips and provides a person with a variety of opportunities. It improves ones self-esteem, mind, financial standing and marketability in the workplace. A university education benefits the individual own life, his or her family and society as a whole. Even though a university education is expensive and it requires a lot of hard work and dedication, in the end it is definitely worth it. According to Wikipedia, the definition for university is “an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees at all levels (bachelor, master, and doctorate) in a variety of subjects. A university provides both tertiary and quaternary education.”  

A university education is valuable for so many reasons, in that it gives a person a certain level of respect for himself or herself that will improve his or her self-esteem and mind. After the individual obtains his or her degree, he or she will be more confident and happy, will respect him or herself and feel that they are important and needed in society. The higher level of education obtained the individual mind will expand thus resulting in he or she able to think better; a university education feeds the mind and soul. A university education also opens windows of opportunities; almost everyday new educational and economic opportunities are open to a person who has attained a university education. University education provides a lifetime of rewards. A university education increases career opportunities and provides a better earning power which allows the individual to earn more at the end of his or her degree, making up for the cost incurred during the pursuit of the degree. University graduates are more likely to be employed than non graduates. They earn on average higher incomes so their quality of life is generally higher. There was a statement in the Sunday Observer on July 8, 2007 saying, “Recent university graduates continue to attract starting salaries at about 80% of average weekly earnings despite the rapidly growing proportion of previous graduates in the workforce.”
