Small stakes murder in a cold hearted city.

                                    Victim of an Ambush

                                                By David Crerand

A heart beating quietly,

                        An evening city walk.

A heart beating quickened,

A strange sound from the darkness.

A heart beating running,

A loud report, and flash of pain.

A heart beating falling,

                        The insult of the assault.

A heart beating outraged,

                        Strange hands rip through pockets

Seeking wadded bills and loose coins.

A heart beating desperately,

Oh my God, don’t let me die.

A heart beating sadly,

Oh my God, Sarah and the boys,

A heart beating weakly now,

A heart beating,

A heart beat…

It brought to mind the story of Batman as a child having his parents killed.

An attentiveness to sound most evident in this piece David :-) Your finical eye for detail makes it perfect ~ liked this very much David :-)

Well written with good format. You described and detailed perfectly what happens way too often in the big cities of our great land. A sad but truthful ending. well done friend.
