"Victoria … on the Move" was Victoria’s state motto under the Kennett Government. Ironic, since one million Victorians moved interstate in seven years and never came back.
500 people each day
Are moving interstate,
Packing up their worldly goods
And moving far away;
Giving up careers and lives
To make the Great Escape.
500 people a day
Are escaping Jeff Kennett’s regime,
Moving to New South Wales
To flee this evil fiend;
Or to the Sunshine State
To rebuild shattered dreams.
500 people each day
Search for a better land,
A place without a despot
Delivering evil commands;
A place where dreams and hopes
Can still be safely planned.
500 people per day
Are running for their lives,
Trying to regain hopes
Of which they’ve been deprived;
Trying to escape from
This evil madman’s knife.
500 people every day
Are running from the axe,
Moving far from Victoria
To avoid never-ending tax;
Fleeing from Jeff Kennett and
The knife aimed at their backs.
500 people a day
150,000 people each year,
Fleeing from a madman who
Fills their lives with fear;
Heading for better places
Where living is not so drear.
