I wrote this to celebrate Martin Luther King jr day.

If violets are blue then sugar is brown
Looking at you turns a brotha’s frown around
With thick lips and other bold features
Sitting here writing I can’t wait to meet you
Clothes are the violets body is the sugar
But I don’t know which one it is when you blush
And that rush of love comes from your heart
To your pretty face when I say nice things to you

Delicate as the violets picked
Only to be put behind the roses
To wilt in the shade
Let’s bring black poetry
From darkness to day
In an assorted bouquet
Violet, blue, purple, whatever
As long as you see them bloom
In the light along with all poetry

Not just black people every one will see
Blue violets and sugar with extra flavor and color
Strong black women that get it from their mothers
Visions displayed in words from brothas
Blacks supporting blacks receiving love from everyone
