Virgin Atlantic adds laptop restrictions.
Virgin Atlantic has placed restrictions on the use of Dell laptops and Apple Computer and Dell UD264 batteries known as battery.
Dell and Apple notebooks, according to a statement posted on the site of Virgin Atlantic, can only be carried on Virgin Atlantic flights if the battery has been removed and stored in the luggage. Users lucky enough to sit in seats with power laptops can be used by this external source, and the Virgin, including plug adapters are available for them. Otherwise, the use of Dell and Apple laptops is prohibited.
Passengers are limited to holding two batteries.
“Any removed or spare batteries must be individually wrapped / protected and placed in your hand luggage,” said the statement on the Virgin site.
Virgin Atlantic was not immediately available to comment on what exactly the proper setting of a laptop battery leads. (Saran Wrap? An old shirt?) The company noted in its announcement, however, it is in talks with Apple and Dell, and lift the ban once the battery situation is resolved.

Virgin Atlantic is the third airline to impose restrictions on Dell and Apple laptops. Since the battery recalls, both Qantas and Korean Air have issued various levels of the ban.
The curious thing about all these restrictions, as CNET News. com has been mentioned before, is that they are incompatible. The policy covers all Dell and Apple laptops, while only some models actually contain the recalled batteries. However, there is no mention of the elimination of laptop batteries that are placed in checked baggage? Even taking into account the smoke and heat detectors, this seems an odd oversight. A laptop off with one of these batteries as easily could hardly turn on the cargo as the cabin.
