A short poem about dreams.

Eyes close,

open a portal to space.

A blinding flash of light, a silent boom as a star erupts.

Flames chase me like a bloodhound after a fox.

Almost there,

Almost to the salvation of the star fortress…

Eyes close,

Emerge out of a dark damp cave,

Sun pierces my pupils with searing light,

A great shadow cast in the searing light, a jungle cat impedes my progress.

The massive hind legs push it off the rock, into a silver knife.

A heavy dead-weight presses my lungs painfully,

They cry out in agony,

Almost there,

Almost see the blinding, comforting, searing, soothing light…

Eyes close,

Bubbles pop to the hypnotic rhythm of a heart beat.

I swim in a cacophony of color,

The sky is bright green, and the grass is red,

Frosty blue trees bend and weave to rainbow air.

Violent violet water captures the air bound for my lungs.

A silver shade of skin suspended over my bones.

I am drowning in a sea of color.

Almost there,

Almost to the surface of the violet water, for a final glimpse of the green sky.

Eyes open,

Still in darkness,

An explosion of light blinds me,

a jungle cat falls to impede its searing brightness,

however small and cuddly, it casts a great shadow in the searing light,

a small relief in the endless sea of colors in which to drown in this pristine morning,

a sheen of yellow light papers the white walls,

the sky as blue as the bedsheets.

A new day like any other, fraught with dangers for those unprepared.

I have no silver knife to fight these unknown dangers,

No breath to breathe in this ocean of renewal.

Sitting bolt upright in the bed, lungs filling with clear air.

My skin is still brown, no visible scars from jungle cats or similar beasts.

And obviously not burnt to a crisp…

wonder what will happen tomorrow?
