Walking in the dark
By Peter Yieko Ndiwa
Those infants of yesterday,
who feared the darkness like the devil,
clinging to their mothers garments like leeches,
now fear the darkness no more,
for they enthustiastically plunge and walk in it.
Look at the daughters,
who would freeze when darkness was mentioned,
they now boldly walk in it.
Fear paralyses them no more,
they now are friends of the darkness.
Look at the oldmen and women,
they never left their homes at the sight of darkness,
for darkness came along with omen,
but they now behold and embrace it,
for they walk in it.
The sun has set and darkness has come,
covering the land like a thick blanket.
those who dreaded and ran away from it,
surprisingly no longer fear it,
but fearlessly walk in it.
