Partisanship is the companion of gridlock in Washington, where nothing much gets done anymore.

Washington is gridlock and we all know it

Nothing gets done any more

The few moderates in Congress

Have been driven out

They have been drowned out

By partisanship that rules the day

With a Republican controlled House

Bolstered by the new Tea Party Representatives

There’s  little room for compromise

That’s why there continues to be

A lack of jobs for Americans

An unemployment rate

A little over nine percent

No compromise on the budget deficit

No compromise on medicare and medicaid

No compromise on health care

No compromise on the U.S. involvement in Libya

In Afghanistan and Iraq

There are other concerns

Gay and abortion rights continue to be divisive

Immigration for undocumented workers

Is viewed as a political football

Partisanship is the companion of gridlock

Nothing much gets done anymore

It’s presently rhetoric to score

Brownie points with the public

One day its a Republican candidate

That’s up in the polls

On another, it’s president Obama

This is especially so with election 2012

For president is on the horizon

Americans can expect more of the same

With a Republican House and a Democratic Senate
