We loved our summer days. We climbed the trails and waded the creeks and spun it out till we had to let go.
Summer was hot but wasn’t it sweet?
Climbing the hills and wading the creeks
Roses and lilies abloom in the sun
Kids out of school to join in the fun
Tall Georgia pines and royal oaks
Patterned the yards and shaded the folks
We picked the berries and made the jam
Paddled the lakes and ran with the hounds
We built sand castles in shady coves
Held onto summer till we had to let go
We drained the long days dry as a bone
Milked it out till it’s cold as a stone
Now autumn creeps in on little frog feet
Cool breezes colors the leaves on the trees
Colors them yellow, orange and red
Early dark sends school children to bed
And I in my swing wrapped up and warm
Relish proud autumn’s tempestuous charms
Huge harvest moon shining silvery bright
Big Dipper swinging down low in the sky
Popcorn, hot cocoa, and talk late at night
Halloween goonies will soon slither by
Dressed up as witches, ghosties and clowns
Scoop up the candy to pass around
Summer retired and cannot be found
