Watch Your Mouth a poem by Jennifer Jo Fay. A poem for writers who give feedback, be careful how you treat your writer peers. Don’t practice being hurtful.
Watch your Mouth
A note to The Tick,
watch your mouth.
People really need to think
before blurting out your words.
“Don’t worry, your work is low
quality and Triond would have to
pay a publisher to sell your stuff.”
Tick was rude. Perhaps even
jealous and ticked would sum it up.
Of course the two poems he read
weren’t of substance.
I didn’t mean them to be.
And this one won’t be of substance
either.
I’m not intending this one to be
substance either.
I am just writing this one to state
a fact.
Writers need to try to keep
their mouths shut if they have
nothing good to say.
And if you intend to criticize,
be nice about it and give tips
and stress what some of the good
points are. No need to get nasty.
Who is to say that Tick is a terrible writer.
He is just one opinion.
This writing community needs to
keep good face
and keep up a friendly manner.
And Triond’s Nasty Rumors and Rumors
poems were just poems I wrote
about what I had heard from another writer.
And he heard it from someone else.
We really have no facts about
the idea of Triond selling our stuff to publishers.
I was just stressing a concern
about what might have happened.
If it wasn’t Triond,
it could have been someone else
who stole someone’s stuff and sold it.
We don’t know.
A rumor is spreading.
So until I hear back from Triond
about the matter,
I will not write any poem
of substance.
Once again, this isn’t a substance poem.
I could care less about this one.
I am just raising some points
to other writers.
Be kind, rewind and if there’s nothing
good to say, keep it to yourself.
We don’t need to hear
someone telling us
that our stuff is low quality
and crap.
Not neccessary.
