My poem is about a man dying. As he passes into the afterlife, a phoenix grabs his soul just in time from being consumed by hell’s demons. The phoenix gives this man a second chance and he is reborn into a new body.
My heart lurches to a stop,
No longer pulsating,
My bodily vibe ceases,
Pin-pricks and shocks ravage my body,
My appendages flail stiff,
I’m drained out and bled dry,
The sunshine dims,
My tired eyes fade off,
Seeping back to darkness,
The shadows fall over me,
Grabbing and taunting at my soul,
Pulling my limbs to the abyss,
The fire-bird,
A savior of the unfortunate,
It’s song screeches,
Swooping with clutched talons,
Salvaging my soul from the deep,
Soaring high with my spirit,
Scorching my earth vessel,
Reduced to ashes,
I’m dropped back to Earth,
Born again
