A love poem.
If I could see you face-to-face
I’d hold you closer than close
You’d kiss my finger tips
As I brush them over your mouth
I’d whisper of my love
Resisting the urge to advise, inform or beg you to see things as I do
I’d want to warn you
Remind you that evil exists
That people we love don’t always have our best interests at heart
That giving up on her might be the only recourse
You’d bite my finger gently if I did this
You’d tell me to relax
Optimistically tell me that no one can hurt us when we’re in each other’s arms
And this may honestly be so
But sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever get the chance to know
Kept apart for so long
Dreaming of our happiness
As I continue righting everyone else’s wrongs
You keep yourself busy
You take on more work projects
A superhero in your own way
Still you feel such emptiness
You write it off as missing your dad
Or hormones
Or a million other issues that don’t have my face on them
But even superheroes deserve their own happiness, right?
If we’re each other’s kryptonite I vote we die in a kiss tonight
