Sadness, loss and grief.

Reasons,

there were none,

his life done,

the news of his son,

just rattled him,

sitting very still,

he willed his face to turn to stone,

he couldn’t let it show,

the pain would still grow,

the wrenching disbelief,

the devastation,

he had to be strong,

weak would be wrong,

he had other children,

they couldn’t see him break down,

he was fumbling a cigarette,

and suddenly threw it away,

death was a word he couldn’t say,

he sat, cried, and prayed.
