A precarious calm has settled in…. Will it last? Will I abandon ship after all and make a break for the other ship sailing along in the distance?

Image via Wikipedia

The waves have subsided

But just below the placid surface

Another tempest may be brewing

Neither of us dares to test the waters

Who will be the first to broach the subject

Of trying to sail again?

If we decide to make a go of it

Who will take the helm?

Be responsible for trying to steer

This broken, battered vessel

Toward the distant shore

I long to be on solid ground

Sure-footed and secure

Ship firmly anchored to the dock

Where we can begin to make repairs

Tired, drenched and shivering

In the chill of the evening

I meant to remain silent

But a sigh escapes my lips

You think it is one of relief

It is, rather, one of deep longing and regret

As I watch the other ship – the sturdy ship

Sail off over the horizon

Illuminated by the pink glow of sunset

It looks all the more appealing.

I fear part five. Lord keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.

    Very intriguing.
    My favorite lines:

But a sigh escapes my lips
You think it is one of relief
It is, rather, one of deep longing and regret
As I watch the other ship – the sturdy ship
    Sail off over the horizon

So deep and yet so understandingly open. Your words convey so much along with some doubt too. I like the flow and messages that seem to wander a little, which is adding to the mystery of this poem.

Only time will tell whether we will make it safely back to shore together.

I am with Ken all the way. I fear episode 5. Unfortunately I do not have a guide who keeps their hand over my mouth…..so…..You are either in the Doldrums, or this is just the calm before the next storm. In your heart of hearts, is this worth saving? Do you think the ship can handle another battering? Do you want to take that chance? Have you truly missed the good ship Greener, or do you think it may swing around and make one last pass to make sure everything is OK?

  • ashan1614 on Oct 28, 2009

Aldrin, the captain of the good ship Greener has assured me he will stay nearby in case I need help. I find myself at a crossroads – I know what my heart is telling me, but it’s still a tough choice. Many years have been invested in building and maintaining my own ship. I doubt that it can take another battering though.
