Gene (new to Triond and listed as EugeneElcik) is a 77 year old Maine-ah who has just published his first book, Desperation of Souls. I met him and his wife several months ago, while he was still battling cancer. His tenacity and positive outlook is catching; something we could all use more of.

Gene is a man who says, “I can”
From a place of water and rugged land.
Age and cancer aren’t enough
To keep down a man made so tough.
While chemicals cursed through his veins,
He dreamed of times without chains.
First book done, he’ll do another,
Treats all like he’s good brother.
Married now for umpteen years,
They’ve been through all, love and tears.
Writing now, his second love,
Cancer? Gone, now free of.
Have Gene as your friend,
Open heart and extend.
He’ll give back more than he gets,
Adding him, you won’t regret.
