Were We Born This Way?
By Cassandra Mastropaolo.
Out of the vessels we crawl,
the lipstick running through our veins.
Only in our heels, we stand tall.
Only in our leather, there’s no pain.
Still, we continue to question
Were we Born This Way?
Only in the spotlight
our smiles truly shine.
We’re just a couple of bad kids
looking to survive.
This showbiz is our heart and soul
without it, we would die.
Our clothes and shoes,
they live and breathe,
our lipstick has a soul.
We’re as real as the
multitude of wigs we bear,
as genuine as the clothes we wear.
So I ask,
Were we Born This Way?
We cry together.
People just don’t see
the sincerity of our souls,
we just wanna be free.
but
Were we Born This Way?
You hold us close
and sing us lullabies
of bubble dreams.
You tell us that we can be free,
that we can be cool on these New York streets.
You make us brave and say
Baby, we were Born This Way.
