An Ode to Heat. A Poem.
Yesterday’s dawn broke hot, bright, and blue,
The early morning heat absorbing the dew.
My girlfriend had phoned from her poolside,
inviting us over to try out the new slide.
While driving to her place, with thighs stuck to seat,
I couldn’t imagine a day without heat.
That was yesterday though, the past dead and gone,
And this morning brought a much frostier dawn.
Streets littered with death in the form of brown leaves,
Thermometers boasting a huge drop in degrees.
I couldn’t believe what went on as I slept,
and I shivered with dread and I’m quite sure I wept.
To me – hot is good, and hotter is better,
I’d rather be sweating than needing a sweater.
Why do I live here? I was born here of course,
Then married, had children – I have no remorse.
But, as I grow older, my thoughts tend to roam,
to sun baked locales that I might one day call home.
Pull up roots and just GO, buy a cottage near the sand,
SPF, a bikini – I wanna be safe, but I gotta be tanned!
One day my dream will be real – this I know,
The day when I’ll never again live in snow!!
Amen
