"WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES" is a sequel to "MY BODY AND ME" This takes me through hospital examinations, diagnosis and Cardiac Surgery and contracting MRSA. This is written from both the patient and a nurses view point. Staff were under the impression that as a Registered Nurse I knew all about the position I was about take up. We are trained/taught what happens and how to treat but it is not untill it is experienced that we begin to learn.

I vaguely remember

Ann there by my side

and I think Geoff was there

with his mouth open wide

The following day

I am moved  from ICU

into high dependency

for a short stay there too

I am having some pains

they say that you do

but it feels like the chest drains

are trying to push through

it feels like I am being stabbed

if I cough or sneeze it hurts

and I am racked with pain

and fresh blood starts flowing down into the drains

at last they take notice

to what I  have said

and take out the drains

while I lie on the bed

at last I can cough

if I support my chest

a rolled up towel

appears to work best

now with the drains out

its easier to breath

and it does not hurt as much

when I cough or I sneeze

I can get up and move

from the bed to the chair

I’m feeling much better

I can breath in some air

funny sensations are coming about

when coughing or sneezing

will  the breast bone  shoot out

its  the clicking inside a real funny thing

is this clicking normal

I don’t really know

I don’t feel like asking

and my ignorance show

the pain in my shoulder

is still causing me

discomfort when ever I try

to move  my arm away from my side

its the pain I was feeling,

(only its more severe)

while I  lay on the trolley

for surgery prepared

the telephone  rings
