What I wish and have wished for many years for my students and my family. No more and no less. All the virtues, forget the money and the power, the mad scramble up the pyramid of status and of wealth. None of it is worth the loss or your humanity.

For Holly.
What do I wish thee?
Only what I wish for all,
No more, no less,
Than the best.
But what then do I wish thee?
A soul, eyes, with wonder filled.
Heart brave to resist.
The little tyrants and,
The big, who lord it,
Over others.
Will to resist the,
Allure of things.
Greed driven,
Of bullies,
And of beasts.
Intelligence to discern,
The evil from the good.
And will to choose,
The latter and the best.
Laughter and the humour,
That shows one,
How to smile,
At self and its,
Pretty pretensions,
And its lies.
To see your faults.
And knowing them,
To tolerate the priggish,
The pompous and,
The fools.
