This poem focuses on the human desire to keep close to our hearts those we love.

I hold you gently in my arms
I touch your wisps of hair
I whisper in your little ear
“For you, I’m always there”

I trace your infant features too
Your tiny button nose
I cradle you and tell myself
That this is what God chose

If only I could keep you here
Secure under my wing
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you
O not one single thing

But this choice isn’t mine to make
Despite my worst desire
I have to give you back to God
And let Him take you higher
