A poem or spoken words that I wrote along time ago. What is the denotation and connotation of the word ‘Negro’?

What is a Negro? What does Negro stand for? Or was it a name give to Africans because of slavey? As i write, Negro must be the proper name for blacks. In slavery, the improper name was Ni**er or whatever the master decided to call them. Would you consider Negro to be symbolizing to show what my ancestors went through from slavery? Songwritng was their only release to get through the hard times of what they would see with their own eyes. You never knew the overseer would decide to beat you or even kill you because of what going through in his life. Let me set the scene if you still don’t have the picture yet. In a town, many years ago, where i am a house slave working for the master after servicing him. The master tells me to sit down and eat with him. As turning my head i was looking out the window for a few seconds, i see an overseer continue to whip the slave down to the ground. As i see little by little the blood start to splash, as the overseer continues to whip the slave. The slave is screaming, but no one is doing anything to help.

The portrait you paint with words is awsome. I can relate to slavery as well. Not that long ago though. Being beat down to a bloody pulp and being shot and left for dead actually really does something to a person and their children as well. Well written piece. Thank you. E
