A poem about giving up on a friendship that was ruined long ago.
What We Had by Nathaniel Tunstall
“He doesn’t care about you.”
I do not care about him or what he says anymore
I do not care
I am not here for insults
I am not here for this exchange of words either
I am here because I remember
I remember the past I had with him
I remember the day that I walked two miles just to talk with him
I remember crying because he wanted to die
So do not tell me what I already know
I do not mean a thing to him
He is just a mere memory
That I don’t need to hold onto anymore
Because I remember what we had
Before I destroyed it
I remember the sleepless nights of talking
I remember the jokes he made
I remember supporting him and his religious beliefs
Do not get involved
In something that should have ended before
We are just a memory
That doesn’t need to be thought about anymore
Because we remember what we had
Before I broke his trust
