A poem of love, life, and freedom with a restricted form that accentuates the subject.
Let go, the tears fall to the groundLocked up, no release from the pain
Maybe crying but we can’t make a sound
Set free, we take a look around
Tears keep flowing as we see what we found
Held in, who knew what we missed
All taken out in the scars on the wrist
Kept back, we forgot each time we kissed
On to the next name on the list
Left alone, we find the dark inside
Evident in every time we lied
Forsaken, we watch the rising tide
Realizing we have no place to hide
Now there’s no way to tell the tears from the rain
Straining, strength begins to wane
Darkness covers the only ones who remain
Released, emotions flare like fire
All feeling left on a blazing pyre
Liberated, we continue to tire
Adrenaline fuels us through the mire
Tied down, losing all that we defend
Unable to use any help others send
Out of control, forgetting what we intend
Not stopping to let the broken mend
Planning escape, they can’t break our will
We’ve found hope they can’t kill
Unrestrained, we look from a distant hill
Remembering promises we must fulfill
All alone, we try to stay sane
Holding onto the life we retain
Stranded, we are all that remain
Our existence becomes our bane
Breaking out, captives begin to sing
Throwing off the chains we bring
Taken over, the bells will ring
And to each other we cling
Outside, we don’t know what we’ll find
Hugged by a young one with a face so lined
Exulting, I respond in kind
Their last day with someone to bind
