We teach our children a lot throughout life

We teach them to walk

To speak

And to fight

For a life they believe in

A freedom to choose

We teach them it’s okay

If sometimes we lose

We teach them to dance

To drive

And to fly

Self confidence

Assurance

What matters in life

We teach them that others 

Who aren’t quite like us

Are still worthy of life

And all the above

We teach them our Faith

And hope they believe

But then we will teach them

To only believe what they see

Mine well I tell her “Yes Santa’s real”

But I’ve taught her less of the man

And more of the appeal

In the thought that someone loved

So much he carelessly gave

To others that had nothing

And so his legend stays

I teach her to believe in order to see

I teach her to have faith 

In possibilities

Because without hope

What else do we have

But  chaos and darkness

And a life that would be sad
