A short poem about a boy imagining all the things that could be knocking at his door.
There’s a knock at the door,
Oh what could it be?
Is it a neighbor with cookies?
We’ll just have to see!
As I get up to answer,
My mind starts to think.
What if it’s a penguin?
Who wants a cold drink!
It could be a wasp?
Angry about his hive!
Or a zookeeper?
Warning us about a bear on our drive!
You know what would be cool?
A flower at the door!
Very frustrated at the ruckus made,
When my parents begin to snore!
As I turn the knob,
I start to wonder.
What if it’s the quick lighting?
Complaining about the slow thunder!
Oh what could it be?
I’ll just have to find out!
Keep your eyes closed,
As I turn the knob about!
Oh that’s who it is!
The postman with a box!
I’m glad we found out!
Even though I was scared out of my socks!
Goodbye Mr. Postman!
Thanks so much for coming!
Now what on earth is in this box?
I guess the answer will be forthcoming!
