Life’s pathway is long and full of lessons to be learned…so when can we finally go home?

The clock has ticked a billion clicks to let me know the time

that I have spent on, seemingly, the endless…and sublime!

The way the sun has risen so…the way the moon has shone

it’s silvery rays to light my paths so I could travel home.

Mistakes I’ve made…their lessons learned…some days have dragged so long!

The people that I’ve helped to live…the loved ones I have wronged.

The animals I have patted, and the graves that I have dug…

The tears that rolled so freely due to no more loving hugs.

The birds that sing have sung before…the crickets now do chirp.

I watch the shadows lengthening and wonder, “will it hurt?”

I feel I’ve lived a million years…and feel that I’ve lived none!

The wisdom I profess to have is nothing much for some

who have, oh, so much more than I to give to this new world!

My time here, it is shortening…a broken strand of pearls!

My children have all grown and gone,  and loved ones wait for me

who’ve missed my laughter:  I have missed their love and company!

I know I bought my ticket on the day that I was born…

But do I wait it’s proper date…or cash it in the morn?

Hi Karelee! I’m sorry this page wouldn’t post your comment but, yes, I did receive it in my ‘inbox’…thank you for your kind words and don’t worry…I’m not going anywhere any time soon if I have anything to say about it!! Ha ha. Thank you again…God bless!

I am glad you clarified that for Karelee. I was worried for a moment. That is a truly brilliant poem. It flows so well and says so much. Great work. My internet is on the blink today. I have caught you on a good moment.

Hi Christine! No…I plan on sticking around for quite some time to come. After all, I still haven’t smelled all the roses yet! ^-^
I’m sorry your internet is on the blink right now. I hope they get it together soon…or your husband’s going to want the cable company to refund money for the time you couldn’t use your computer!
But then, again, that could be another poem….:) (I still smile whenever I think of the gas company…) ^-^

    Very nice work, M.J!

As Zebra says, beautiful and expressive…My favorite line is “My time here, it is shortening…a broken strand of pearls!”; great metaphor.

    Superb work; keep it up!

Hi Debra! Praise from you…an excellent Triond writer… always means so much to me! I hope someday my articles will be as good as yours! :)

Hi MrZebra84! Thank you so much for always being there to support me in the short time you’ve been with Triond. Since I just came onboard this past October, I’m not all that much ahead of you, experience-wise, so having another Triond friend is great…my Triond family just keeps getting bigger and bigger! :)

Hi Fresh Writing! It’s so nice to hear from someone I don’t know yet because now that we’ve met, we’re no longer strangers to each other! Thank you for your kind words…that line is my favorite, too! :)

That was wonderful…and yet sad. I admire your gift in poetry and will look forward to reading so much more of it.

  • M J katz on Apr 2, 2009

Hi Spiritwalker! I’ve actually started writing a little poetry due to some of the beautiful and/or thought-provoking verses that others have written here on Triond! I’m glad you liked this one!

lovely poem, a lot of food for thought, especially as we get older, and as life, passes, all roads lead to one. thanks again for the poem. brianberu

Hi brianberu! Thank you! I wish I had been able to incorporate your words, “and as life passes, all roads lead to one…” because they certainly would have been perfect in this poem! :)

We can finally go home when our work is done. You so clearly inspire many people with your beautiful poetry, I am sure that your work is far from completion. Only an earth angel can write with so much honesty and wisdom and I thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
