I wonder?

Within a tragic minute
of lovely flashbacks
tinkering brightly so
I get my chance to see
something different from
this pale shade
I’ve already sucked it dry
the nourishment
whole and shimmering in,
my body like a sun

When I am gone
am I gone for good
or will I return?
And where is he
where is he,
who sought me out for my
promise of consolation
he who tried to touch me gently
where I was still hurting
from the impact
of meeting his eyes
or simply from
connecting

I already tried crying for help
I scratched a hole in the wall
hoping to reach somewhere
far beyond just the other side
far beyond myself
And everytime I sing the word ‘pain’
it seems to let me go
for a tragic minute I am free

When we are dead
I wonder, can I fall asleep happily
whispering warm words into your hair
If I can I will not stop
until I’m all tangled up
copying your harmony
I will never stop
connecting
