The tragedy of a swan. A sonnet.

Painted by Ken Bultman

Gently drifting upon the darkened lake
A white swan elegantly floats across
Tranquility concealing a deep ache
Sorrow for an unforgettable loss

For she swims alone in desolation
Her one and only soul mate was taken
Leaving her in mournful isolation
A love that was tragically forsaken

Her lovely neck delicately curves down
Gazing vacantly at her reflection
Dressed exquisitely in her snowy gown
Heartbroken for her fallen affection

Forever grief-stricken for her soul mate
Trapped eternally in her lonesome fate

That is so haunting and beautiful. We have a swan close by on the water’s edge sitting on her nest at the moment. I can’t wait for the little ones to arrive.
