I am on a permanent diet and really wish I didn’t need to be.

Image via Wikipedia

I failed with my diet again this week.

Why does it always happen to me?

Whenever I try to cut down on food

I need to eat endlessly.

**

I start each day with strength anew

To avoid the high calorie snack,

But after all these years of trying

I realise its self control that I lack.

Image via Wikipedia

Chocolate is the main culprit.

I can’t help it, but it tastes so good,

With its creamy, melt in the mouth texture

I always eat more than I should.

Image via Wikipedia

Biscuits are also a temptation,

Especially cookies with chocolate chips.

If I don’t hide them at the back of the cupboard

They’ll soon have me licking my lips.

**

If only I could eliminate my sweet tooth

And cut out sugary snacks when I shop,

Then I might stand a chance of some weight loss

And this dieting could be brought to a stop.

Image via Wikipedia

I’m just yearning for the warm summer days,

When healthy foods I’m more likely to enjoy,

So when I diet I will have more success

And better habits I’ll be able to employ.

Another good one, Christine. At least you know you\’re human like the rest of us :-)

  • ashan1614 on Mar 1, 2010

Right! Summer fruits always make it a little easier to snack on something healthy. I like this a lot and face the same problem, except I alternate between chocolate and potato chips – it’s a sweet and salty craving dilemma. :)

  • pearl2010 on Mar 1, 2010

Those kind of foods Christine are so tempting. No wonder you got that kind of title.Correct me if I am wrong.Nice share anyway.

  • diamondpoet on Mar 1, 2010

You are not alone, I always cheat and regret it the next day. good piece. Get tough Christine.

  • 8Shei8 on Mar 1, 2010

I am on the same boat as you especially here at Triond. I read articles on how to lose weight and then I read recipes for chocolate cake or fried chicken :)

  • giftarist on Mar 1, 2010

Temptation. All those foods are yummy especially the non-vegetable ones.

  • ceegirl on Mar 1, 2010

It’s all in the mind. You can do anything you want to.

  • Authoress Terry E. Lyle on Mar 1, 2010

What a great article and the diet versus proper eating will be my downfall if I don’t leave the sweets alone, that’s just why my darn wisdom tooth is killing me now. I loved the pictures and I’ll blame my next binge on you after seeing those cookies. (Keep smiling and doing a great job with the articles) I’ll be busy until the end of March trying to complete my book but if you want a good laugh check out the poetry section of my personal website http://www.terrylyle.com Well my tooth is rocking and I’ll pop in from time to time.

  • Lady Sunshine on Mar 1, 2010

Your poems always make me smile. I certainly can relate. Diets just suck. But then again I’m weak-willed. You’re a lot stronger than I. I’m sure you’ll succeed.

  • Frances Lawrence on Mar 1, 2010

I don’t use the word diet. As soon as that word is spoken I find myself wanting to eat!

  • petercurtis97 on Mar 1, 2010

It is tough but you hit the nail on the head with that sweet tooth as the main culprit.

  • Ruby Hawk on Mar 1, 2010

Christine, it’s only human. We just plain enjoy eating and it’s hard to eat just half as much.

  • ken bultman on Mar 1, 2010

Pretend that chocolate is medicine…really bad tasting medicine. Or you could store it on the floor so each time you have some you’d have to touch your toes. Good exercise.

  • Jenny Heart on Mar 1, 2010

Remember Ken’s comment and you’ll be fine. You can do it. Just tell yourself I’ll eat it once or twice a week not every day. It works!

  • Goodselfme on Mar 1, 2010

You are not alone my friend. You penned this well for lots of laughter so I lost a pound in that activity.

  • Uma Shankari on Mar 1, 2010

enjoyable poem, Yes, what happened to that diet buddy of yours, your journal and mutual inspiration and compare-notes?
    http://healthmad.com/weight-loss/a-big-thank-you-to-my-diet-buddy/
Don’t allow her to her to read this poem of yours, then she’s going to blame you for her slip-ups.

  • Eunice Tan on Mar 1, 2010

Very well said about our problem.

a very heart-warming poem Christine. you really am a chocolate lover. Guess you first learn to practice a little more self discipline.

  • 1Mind on Mar 2, 2010

Yes. Chocolate is quite tasty isn’t it? But I enjoy fruits and yogurts almost as much. Lucky for me I guess.

  • AlmaG on Mar 2, 2010

I ask the same thing to myself LOL! Great poem as usual Christine :)

  • XXElleXX on Mar 2, 2010

“I’m just yearning for the warm summer days,
When healthy foods I’m more likely to enjoy…”…
So true Christine ~ Summers in Oz can bring on some extremely hot/humid weather…I drink more water, sweat more and eat good food, fruit and veges…I love chocolate…and lots of it…can’t live without it ~ liked this piece :-)

  • deep blue on Mar 2, 2010

Another masterpiece, Christine. At least you made it in coming up with a hilarious poetry to define the experience. Well I haven’t even succeeded on my own attempt. Who does?

  • Nick Ramsay on Mar 2, 2010

Mum, the solution is simple. Get dad to do the shopping!

  • kate smedley on Mar 2, 2010

That is how it is for sure Christine and you put it into a witty poem again, why are the things we love not good for us?
Inspired and entertaining as always, thank you so much.

  • Debra. on Mar 2, 2010

Oh, Christine, we’ve all been there! lol

  • Darla Cooke on Mar 2, 2010

    Very good poem.

  • T. S. Lewis on Mar 2, 2010

I have a sweet tooth also glad the effects do not show past the inside of my mouth. I feel your perplexity. And I would say given into temptation but I am able to live with guilty pleasure. Hang in there summer is around the corner.

  • bailieman on Mar 2, 2010

If your profile picture is up to date then you do not need to diet.

  • nobert soloria bermosa on Mar 2, 2010

beautifully conveyed…i thought dieting it’s the hardest thing to do…

  • CA Johnson on Mar 2, 2010

I loved your poem. I have the same problem. My weakness is definitely chocolate. I have such a hard time staying away from it.

Don’t be too hard to yourself, eat moderately will do…but of course be careful what you eat, everything just eat but don’t overeat, but of course saying is always easier.

  • clay hurtubise on Mar 3, 2010

You read my mind on that one!
    Nice piece.
    Thanks,
    Clay

  • standingproud on Mar 4, 2010

awww it is so hard to stick to diet..
I now east high protein and like very much, have gotten so use to it ,that when I eat things say like hot chippies ,the oily fatty taste is just so yukky horrible that I just dont bother any more.
I have found my hair is shinier and my shin a lot better looking, plus many other benefits :) .
I wish you strength to keep up the good hard word, But Christine remember to reward yourself with a choc every now and then :)

  • PR Mace on Mar 4, 2010

You have spoken for all the women in the world. My problem is food just tastes so good and cookies are the best.

Things went well and I am healthy, and back to commenting but a little slower. Thanks for your caring and support.

    Pam

  • krrymarie on Mar 11, 2010

  • Judy Kaelin on Mar 13, 2010

Very nice poem, I see we share the love of the same foods.

  • Patrick Regoniel on Mar 14, 2010

Yes, so true. I want to eat foods which I couldn’t eat anymore because of the need to follow a suggested diet. Well, we can try to eat once in a while, but not much.

  • mark ramsay on Mar 19, 2010

Perhaps your body is getting fed up with dieting, Mum. Why don’t you give it a rest for a while.

  • S A JOHNSON on Mar 31, 2010

That really sucks. I love my Italian foods and baked goods. lol
