I keep telling you that you are keeping me from moving ahead and you don’t seem to comprehend what I’m saying.

My people are without jobs our children go hungry at night. We watch TV and see the way your people are dressed and wonder how we can reach this success. Why can’t you see me?

Everyday I go to work and hear you whispering about me and how without affirmative action I wouldn’t be in my position. But I have been trying to tell you that for years. Why can’t you see me?

I go to stores and stand in lines with people who are talking about me asking each other why I shop in this store. I happen to have been living in this country all my life. Why can’t you see me?

I went to get my car fixed and you told me that I would be the third person to be seen. So I waited patiently for you but after the fifth person and a hour and a half later I asked why I had been waiting for so long. Then you assured me that I would be next but it was to late. Why can’t you see me?

There was a line of people and people wanted to cross through the line but they all kept coming through the line where I stood. First one person then two people then three people then more until I refused to move. Why can’t you see me?
