A fun poem, but not funny really. It is a hard economy.

Oh how sad, how very sad

I’m sorry to say

this thing on earth makes me cry

I’d avoid it anyway.

A quiet person as I am

I do not make a scene

sensitive and vulnerable, truly

calm and serene.

Do not torture me

or make me the object of your fun

for I’m easily moved to tears

whenever I chop an onion.

And with the price of onions soaring here

reason all the more

to grieve over, this shrewd makeover

hoarding items in go-down store.

Sometimes a little crying is good! It makes you realize that this is a world where tears can not just be kept at bay all the time.

You made me smile. I never thought an onion could be the inspiration for a poem. You have started me off now as there are so many vegetables that could give inspiration.

Very nicely written. The onion and the cost of the onion is enough to make one cry.
