Wildflower: A flower that grows wild, meaning it was not intentionally seeded or planted. The term implies that the plant probably is neither a hybrid nor a selected cultivar that is in any way different from the way it appears in the wild as a native plant, even if it is growing where it would not naturally.

Once I knew where the wildflowers grew

and danced while Spring was in the air

swaying in the gentle breeze to a tune

so sweet and fair only they could share.

Kissed by the sun and the morning dew,

their blooms raised magnificently

to the world as if in joyous prayer.

Vibrant colors now lay etched

upon golden memories long since passed.

Those times remembered more clearly

than yesterday … times when questions

of love were cast to daisies in the wind

yet held more dearly than any other

could have ever been.  Now all that’s left

for me to see of flowers in the Spring

lies just beyond my grasp within my dreams.

Once I knew where the wildflowers grew

until Winter came ‘round and as with death

left their seeds scattered on the ground.

Where did they go?  Oh where did they go?

Terrific title. It drew me in to read your poem. The wildflowers will grow again next Spring!

Wildflowers make such a pretty scene on our landscape.
