A fictional poem of a couple.

She sat at the table

With pen in hand

Wondering if he’d ever

Give her a wedding band

He seemed so distant

These past few months

As if something had changed

Not as it was once

No matter how she tried

She just couldn’t get through

Night after night she cried

As he withdrew

“Is it my fault?” she wondered

But couldn’t think why

She did the best she could

She just loved that guy

As the days drew on

And the nights ticked away

She felt more forlorn

With each passing day

Then suddenly one day

He came up to her

Bent down on his knee

Her mind went a blur

“Will you marry me?”

He asked with a great big smile

Could this be happening?

She thought for a while

Yes! She shouted

As she jumped to her feet

The man she had doubted

Had just been so sweet

But you’ve been so distant

Not close at all

He knew in an instant

He had to tell all

He told of his working extra hard

He made extra money

As the nighttime security guard

Now it all seemed so funny

She thought all at once

He was thinking of her after all

She felt like a dunce

He placed the ring on her finger

It fit just right

She wanted this day to linger

Right into the night

He went out of his way

To get her that ring

She felt more than words could say

This was no longer a fling
