Sometimes it’s hard for us to clear out the excess clutter in our lives. This includes people as well as things. When we have finally had enough, we make that much-needed change. We clear the way to make room for new things, new people and new opportunities to enter our lives.

The limbs of the old maple tree in the front yard
Usually still, now swaying and bending
Stray trash carelessly dropped by neighbors
Rolls like tumbleweed past my house
Good, because I’ve had enough of garbage
Being dumped on me

Staring through the dust streaked pane
I haven’t bothered to wash in a while,
There’s not been much worth looking at
I now see the gray skies in the distance
Not ominous as in the past
Just a promise of much-needed rain
The browning lawn and wilted flowers
Say everything that needs to be said

As the first droplets collect on the glass
I withdraw my head from the curtain
Focus my attention inward
Spring cleaning three months past due
Funny how quickly the dust collects
How fast the clutter can build
When the residents are neglectful
Now with some time to myself
A renewed energy stemming from within
The hope of new prospects
I get to work, clearing the cobwebs
Of my life, preparing
To receive a long awaited guest
