A poem written about giving somebody wings, the simple action of sending a message, and what it feels like when we never get a message. Give them wings, but attach those strings. The simple act of love eludes so many of us.

Wings are what she asked me to give,

Said it is what she needed to live,

Wings she did don,

As I placed them on,

Hoping there was never a reason to forgive.

-

Lying in bed without a single sound,

I open my eyes and look all around,

I see my phone blink,

”Is this her,” I think,

Just the thought causes my heart to pound.

-

I reply to the message she has sent,

Every message becomes a special event,

She is thinking of me,

I know this must be,

For a moment, her time on me was spent.

-

Early in the evening I sent my reply,

Though I know that this is her time to fly,

Now I lay and wait,

For this angel to relate,

Or maybe just call to give me her alibi.

-

Waiting and waiting as the hours do pass,

Time rolls on and begins to amass,

Still there is no sign,

From this angel of mine,

I begin to feel like a tiny blade of grass.

-

Just a “sleep good hon” or an “I Love You,”

Could it have really been that hard to do?

A simple “alright baby,”

Or perhaps just maybe,

It could be that she just never thought of you.

-

So a word of caution to all that can hear,

Lean in close and lend me your ear,

Give them wings,

Attach some strings,

Else you place your heart on top of a spear.

-

It doesn’t take much to realize today,

It could be as simple as something we say,

Just taking a minute,

A message is sent,

Showing that wings were not given for discontent.

-

Give them their wings and let them fly,

Soaring through life ever so high,

To all of that string,

The heart does cling,

Begging to never hear that word…  “Goodbye.”
