How I feel every time my husband leaves us for another deployment.
The dreamer withers back
The sky is turning gray
The owl retreats to nest
With nothing left to prey
A fog now settles in
As silence drapes the morn
Your eyes don’t want to open
But remember what you’ve sworn
Another useless moment
Passes by without you
You wonder where he is now
And if man will suffer too
Your child stirs in her bed
A strong wind rushes in
A moment of refreshment
You muster up a grin
Her arms now wrapped around you
A tear streams down your cheek
She clings to all you offer
You know you can’t be weak
For you it won’t be easy
It never seems to be
He’s left them times before this
So why are you so lonely?
The question goes unanswered
She dresses for the day
Where are coat and hat now?
Your mind begins to stray
What if all is taken?
Your head will start to ache
Now pull yourself together
Just for the children’s sake
Time will flow without you
The leaves will fall again
But if you don’t face winter
What will happen then?
