A poem about the heartache of deployment impending.
With every new day
There comes news
Of another unit preparing
To deploy to a far away land.
With every newscast,
And every plane leaving,
Another of our friends
Dons his uniform and bids his family good-bye.
I fight back the tears.
Feel the tugging at my heart,
For with every day
Your departure draws nearer.
I know I’m strong,
I can hold down the fort….
But who’ll hold me
When the lonely tears fall?
Duty may take you far away,
But in my heart you’ll forever stay.
And between now and then,
I’ll treasure every little moment,
I have with my soldier.
