I wrote this poem in English one day as we were talking about syntax, therefore the title is ironic in a sense. The poem plays on the closeness of words and their meanings, so hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

Its funny that the word “help” sounds a lot like “hell”,
because one is what I need, while the other is where I’m going.
And since they’re so close together, whenever I start to yell,
Help comes first and tells me my chances of going to hell are growing.

Its funny that the word “scream” sounds a lot like “dream”,
Because one is what she does, while the other is what she imagines.
And since they’re so close together, she’s stuck dying on the street,
Scared and lonely she cant go home she wonders, “What’s going to happen?”

Its funny that the word “foe” sounds a lot like “fellow”,
because sometimes you think you have one, while you actually have another.
And when times are desperate and dire your true colors start to show,
and you realize you could’ve prevented the fight if you just listened to your mother.

Its funny that the word “chasing” sounds a lot like “amazing”,
because one describes what your do to your dreams while the other describes your dreams. And since you so badly want one you’re unsure of the questions you should be raising, so you go home and write yourself a lullaby about how nothing is as good as it seems.

Its funny that the word “cat” sounds a lot like “hat”,
because one covers your head of hair while the other covers your house with hair.
And since you care so much about them you watch your pet as she gets to be fat,
and cry yourself to sleep when she dies, then take off your hat and drive to nowhere.

Its funny that the word “change” sounds so similar to the word “pain”,
because one is what you want to do, while the other is the result when you try.
And since they sound so much alike you don’t know if your different or the same,
so you do all you can to be a better man and live richly before you die.

Its funny that all these words sound so much alike,
because I’ve got one more time to read you one last line and present my favorite rhyme.
Certain words go well together, but words, like lives, do not last forever.
