A reflection on the application of poetry in our lives and how we make life out of it.

Could we find some consolation in a combination of flowery words?

Sharpen it with such detail it could cut like the edge of a sword,

A man’s enduring feeling to a lady love commanding submission,

An overnight of intimacy ending in bed with such blissful passion.

Colourful lines on a storybook mesmerizing every reader by each page,

Bridging a link to a world of fantasy capturing the mind regardless of age,

Words of a politician summoning allegiance before the elections,

Stirring issues, spoils and promises to win a vote and not rejection.

Advertisements and promotions aired on the radio and played on TV,

Selling stuffs, from food, clothing and cosmetics offering value for money,

Sermons from a preacher invoking duties and renewed faith to the religion,

Attending sacraments and offerings to the good of the congregation.

Lines of a song sung by a band with a cacophony of guitars and piano,

Selling records by millions and making ruptured ears with noise on the radio,

Scripts containing dramatic lines which shall make up the scene of a movie,

Rehearsed by each cast with the special effects for everyone to come and see.

Words that make up such intricate, perplexed lines of scrambled ideas in poetry,

Attempting to catch every rhetorical tag that would end up rhyming in irony,

Too many that evocative terms were utilized to lure readers to the wisdom,

Realizing at end of a seemingly endless litany of phrases that yield utter boredom.

In school we learned of great poets whose works made such a mark in history,

Great as they were; Shakespeare, Dickinson and Whitman were honoured posthumously,

Right where we stand attempting with our feeble poetry getting published we feel so cool,

Despite the comments, honours and praises at the shadow of the masters we are but a fool.

Interesting piece: I believe there is some fine talent on Triond and maybe history will recognize some of them!
    Thanks,

So true. But I’m happy to take the comments and honours given by this group of living poets, yourself included, and stay in the shadow of the masters.

I made that line at the tune of \”poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree\”. Don\’t be offended by the last line, barely a month at Triond I\’m just kinda amused making such poem and deserve your comments. With the computer to search for rhyming words, synonyms and correct spelling, poetry has never been this fulfilling. Thank you very much for the support.

I hope to be famous before I die, if not, even sooner.
I wish the same for all of us.

Ya, poem is words of reflection. They reflect our value, virtue, culture and civilization.
