This is one of my favorite pieces. It was inspired by a bus ride home, and this guy reminded me of Martin Gore of Depeche Mode. He had the same build, height, and hair! “If my heart didn’t skip a beat! I just sat some rows behind him looking at him, trying to focus on not passing my stop. I actually wrote most of this on the bus.
Would you know my love if it came and sat down beside you?
Would you know my love if it was right in front of you?
Let’s ring bells in the cathedral
And keep the night awake
And pray for mercy and grace
As if we didn’t care at all…
Would you know my love if it called out your name?
Would you know my love if it asked you to stay?
Let’s pretend that we come from a different time
And nothing could keep us apart
And Satan put a curse on our hearts
Then we can break the spell tonight…
Would you know my love if it knocked on the door?
Would you know my love if it washed ashore?
Would you know my love if it wanted your love?
Would you know my love if it needed more?
Let’s run away to a new residence
We’ll pack our bags ans leave this place
And even have our names changed
In order to protect the innocent
Let’s forget about our past crimes
We can live our lives without conviction
And repent before there’s need for confession
In order to begin a new life
Why don’t you know it’s here for you?
