Do you love to write children’s stories? If your answer is yes, then this is for you.
What could motivate you to write more stories? Maybe you have your own unique answer. But some would answer that it is the burning passion to write, the money earned and of course the recognition and awards. Others would say that they just need to gain more friends. Whatever your reason is, you deserve to know what you can get as a writer of stories for children.
The highest international recognition that you can get as a children’s book writer is the Hans Christian Andersen Awards, sometimes known as the “Little Nobel Prize”. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the Patron of this award which started in 1956. Obviously, this award is named after the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen whose tales are still enjoyed by readers around the world today
How are winners chosen? Publishers send the names of their best writers and artists to the National Section of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young) who makes the nomination. Then, the international jury selects the winners. The jury is made up of people from all over the world who knows a lot about children’s books.
The International Board on Books for Young People or IBBY presents the Hans Christian Andersen Awards which consists of a gold medal and a diploma to a living author and illustrator every two years. (The awards for the illustrators began only in 1966)
