Poem about the need for recognition.
Are we ever truly certain, that our writing goals and talent are enough
to see us reach our stated aims, even if the publishing world is tough?
Do we have what it takes to weather every storm that we will face
can out writing ever manage with the more successful to keep pace
All we have is that which drives us to post new work time and again
we have to know if the next one will be the one that makes our name
so we keep on writing grimly, determined that we should not fail,
we publish books and hope like hell that we make that first important sale
Wanting comment, needing feedback we lay ourselves open to abuse
because we honestly want to feel that what we compose is of use
We need to know it entertains, or interests or amuses those who read
it is an addictive drive, which only constant commentary can feed
Writers are a lonely breed of creatures who need every day to be reassured
that the one things readers never are is, god forbid, by their words bored
So we ask, like kids for sweeties, that readers tell us what they think
has our time writing been wasted, or our efforts keeping us in the pink
It is impossible for those who do not have this drive to understand
why it is that writing and inventiveness always go hand in hand
the laymen never see that words are wondrous, vibrant things
that playing with them can create an impressive resonance that rings
Right across the worldwide web, heard by the most critical of readers
who go over it with interested eyes. it is their input that feed us.
So do not read this silly verse without saying if indeed it made you think
That you thought it entertaining, and I have not wasted the ink?
