Types of X-ray examination is called Hysterosalphingography. Hysterosalphingography assist the examination of the uterus and fallopian channels surrounding structures. In the tests performed after radiation Hysterosalphingography doctors inject special contrast fluid through the uterine tubes and channels. The contrast fluid has properties that make it can be seen in X-rays.

X-rays in the uterus and fallopian tubes are generally performed as part of the investigation of infertility. Although ultrasonography has replaced this examination for the detection of foreign bodies, such as tools lodged in the womb, but ultrasound can not evaluate the tube (channel) with the obvious, which is the main purpose of the test Hysterosalphingography.

Why Hysterosalphingography test done?

Hysterosalphingography tests conducted for the following reasons:

  • To confirm tubal abnormalities such as adhesions and blockage.
  • To confirm abnormalities in the uterus, such as foreign bodies, congenital malformations and traumatic injury.
  • To confirm the existence of adhesions or fistula peritubal
  • To help evaluate the miscarried fetus or fistula
  • To check the results of surgery, especially procedures and repair uterine tubal reconstruction.

What should you know before the test Hysterosalphingography?

  1. You will learn Hysterosalphingography tests, including who will perform, where and the estimated duration of the test (about 15 minutes).
  2. Tell your doctor or nurse if you are thinking about blood clotting disorders. Also if you are allergic to shellfish (like oysters or shrimp), iodine, or contrast fluid in other medical examinations.
  3. Prepare yourself to feel the cramps are due Hysterosalphingography procedures. You will get a mild sleeping pill.
  4. You need to sign a letter stating your approval to conduct tests Hysterosalphingography. Be sure to read this letter carefully and ask if there are parts you do not understand.

What happens during the test Hysterosalphingography?

  1. You will lie on an examination table with legs attached to the pedal. The doctor inserts a speculum in the vagina and cervix clean.
  2. Then the doctor inserts a catheter in the cervix, and the contrast fluid injected through the catheter. Performed by X-ray irradiation.

What happens after the test Hysterosalphingography?

  1. Tell the nurse if you feel heat or pain.
  2. Cramps, nausea and dizziness should go away.

Is the test Hysterosalphingography risky?

  1. Hysterosalphingography tests should not be performed on women who are menstruating or women with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
  2. Hysterosalphingography tests can lead to perforation of the uterus and exposure to harmful radiation.

What is a normal result?

Normally the X-rays will reveal a symmetric uterine cavity. Contrast fluid runs through the fallopian tube with normal caliber, out freely into the peritoneal cavity and there is no leakage of the uterus.

What is meant by an abnormal result?

The uterus is not symmetric in X-ray or the supportive presence of adhesions in the uterus, such as connective tissue or foreign bodies. Failure of the flow through the fallopian tubes to support the existence of partial or total blockage. Leakage of contrast fluid through the uterine wall to support the existence of a fistula. Laparoscopy (inserting a small fiber optic telescope) with injection of contrast fluid may help confirm these findings.
