The social conditions in Nigeria have given rise to xenophobia. This could be partly true because of high unemployment and hopelessness.

Some Nigerians are bent

On driving foreigners out

Of their vastly populated country

Of over 155 million

They have raided some foreign shopkeepers

Image via Wikipedia

That presently have their stores boarded up

Many of these include Pakistanis

Illegal immigrants number

From three to seven million

Many are Zimbabweans and Somalis

Nigeria’s president Jacob Zuma

Supports anti-hate crime legislation

But this does not seem to work

Are Nigerians xenophobic?

Having an intense dislike

And fear of people from other countries

Part of the reason could be

The high rate of unemployment

Tagged as being around 20 percent

Or higher in some townships

So, many Nigerians have no jobs

Their future is hopeless

And they blame foreigners

As the enemy
