Dedicated to a young man with a healthy appetite for silly stories.

You ask me for a story
Post-haste I must think of one
A mishmash of ideas
I wish I could do better for you, my son

One night you were a superstar
Another we were trapped inside a game
Weeks ago you and your cousin ran off to the circus
And a lion did you tame

I should write you a proper tale
With an official beginning, middle and an end
A well-written piece of non-fiction
About your being a godsend

Yet you seem to enjoy how I stumble
How the story never flows
I pray you’ll always love my stories
Let’s hope they get better as you grow
