A love poem.
You are so young in this picture
Arms crossed
Disheveled hair hidden by your hood
You say you dreamt of me back then
Of how much you’d love me
Need me
Crave me
I wish I could reach through time and touch that face
We will have our battles
I’d tell you
Days of silence
Nights of worry
I will try to leave you a hundred times within our first year
Hearing these words
You’d only smile at me and kiss my palm until I laugh and pull it away
My heart will fill with the warmth that only you can provide
Looking into your eyes
I won’t consider the missed deadlines or your slipups
Remaining in the moment will be my only concern
Yes, young one, we will have our battles
I’ll repeat
But I’ll love you endlessly through all of them
