“You have a smart mouth,” he said.
“Why, thank you,” she told him.
“I meant I didn’t like the way you argued with me,” he said,
“How you spoke your mind.”
“But if I didn’t speak my mind, what would I say?” she asked.
“You could say you love me,” he said.
“I do love you. You know that,” she said,
“But wouldn’t you rather I also said some other things, too?”
“See, there you go, arguing with me again,” he said.
“But I wasn’t,” she insisted. “I was just making a point.”
“Why bother?” he told her. “Your point is pointless.”
“That’s not true,” she said. “I have a lot of important things to say.”
“What you’re saying sure doesn’t sound important.” he said.
“Hmmph,” she answered, “And you think I have the smart mouth?’
