Poem of tyranny, about people "elected" to lead but end up ruling.
In a womb you took form
And wormed your way thro’ the birth canal;
Then, according to the general norm
People took leave of everything banal
To welcome you into the world;
Now, because you live, we die.
As a suckling you did not choke
Nor did mother’s breasts run out of milk,
As a toddler no limb you broke;
While in your cradle, covered in silk
The house did not fall on you,
So, because you live, we die.
Weathering all storms you came of age,
You waxed stronger by the day
And in time you became sage,
Daily our honor we did pay
Till you no longer recall if you’re divine or human
Now, because you live, we die.
Again and again we go to the poll,
Yet it matters no more whom we vote
For, as on and on years roll,
This disheartening fact we’ve come to note:
That you’d always be the winner;
So because you live, we die.
Into us you plunge your sickle
Harvesting us like produce of farms
Yet you think it only tickles,
We chafe daily under your arms
For they bring us nought but destruct;
So, because you live, we die.
An unfair dealing of nature!
If you hadn’t seen a sunrise,
If you’d not got any chance to mature,
If our world had been blessed with your early demise,
That would’ve saved millions from hunger;
But now you live, so we die.
