The man in the moon saw me crying on a cool cloudy night. He didnt know what for so he came down on a moon beam to find out.The rest of the night played out like a well written fantasy. The man in the moons words of wisdom hit a heart that was badly wounded.

I sat on my  porch gazing at the moon high above,

wishing that the solution to my problem was there.

Without any warning my pent up tears began to fall,

making my already dark eyes shine like twin gems.

******

As the cold tears fell I asked the man in the moon a favor,

to give me some comfort for my still raw breaking heart.

I pulled my thick shawl around me expecting no answer,

but that’s when the midnight sky light up like fireworks.

*****

Hundreds upon hundreds of small bright stars appeared,

each new forming star taking their place without being told.

In the middle of this light show a long moon beam formed,

all my  blue eyes could do is watch all this in amazement.

****

As the moon beam hit the ground a short chubby man smiled,

looking more like an Irish leprechaun with his hand carved pipe.

He bowed and told me his name was Patrick Murray Finnegan,

I am the the man in the moon and have heard your sad request.

****

With a smile I tell Patrick that my heart has been badly broken,

that the man I have loved forever has now taken flight and ran.

Healing will come in time but it wont be anytime soon I know,

how do you unlove and let go when I  loved him with all I had?

****

Patrick smile and the aroma of his tobacco swirled around us,

there isn’t much I can do but will help you where I am able to.

Your heart will mend in time and will someday be whole again,

but just maybe your love affair with your love was meant to end.

****

I believe that he once loved you like you still love him even now,

but time and turbulent waters between you has altered all of this.

Rest assured he will find another one to love and yes even marry,

but she wont ever be able to erase the memories you two created.

****

Your lover now gone was reaching for the moon and beyond that,

while you were only reaching for what you could reach within sight.

The two of you had a difficult time on agreeing you both are aware,

but that didn’t mean the love wasn’t there and it wasn’t the real thing.

****

Plans were made for a future wedding but the best laid plans can break,

he may marry but its on good authority that you never will marry again.

But something tells me that you will live a life worth living in the end,

for  its very hard to keep a such a strong willed survivor held down.

* ****

You have a family that loves you with no conditions attached at all,

use this as a solid foundation to focus on as you mend your heart.

Its not to late in life to find someone that you can trust then love,

but just be sure to finally get over your old lover before doing this.

****

Patrick took my hand and said it would be best to let your love go,

let him find his path and right woman that he was meant to marry.

It was not you my dear but you have known this for a very long time,

heal your shattered heart and put the shine back into your blue eyes.

****

With that Patrick climbed on his moon beam and went back home,

his last words told me that my fight to regain who I was had started.

Don’t let no man, woman or heartache take away your determination,

when its all said and done we have to be true to ourselves before

we can be be who others need us to be.

****

With a heavy heart I will let my only love go and get on with my life,

still remembering the lessons I learned from my now failed romance.

For me my loss was not an end despite that I still loved him deeply,

but a new beginning to finding out just exactly what made me tick

on my road to an emotional recovery.
