This poem is about the loneliness after having scaled the heights of success…

Looking around on that coveted pinnacle of success

I find not a world of laughter and ecstasy

It is more of an aureate but desserted castle

With not a soul to offer the ambrosia of togetherness

Not one heart to listen to me express my emotions

All alone I talk to the mirror in the pervading silence

For years I had toiled with mindless intent

To attain fame, glory, accolade and success

In this quest friends were forgotten, lost in the crowd

For I could never be there for comfort or help

Or just drop by to give a casual greeting

Lost within my oblivious world of efforts

I cared not for severence of relations

And for  alienation of once close companions

Using every acquaintance to further selfish ends

I employed every relation as a rung of the ladder to success

Climbing on peoples shoulder to reach the zenith of life

I reached the acme of human existence

With prosperity kissing my feet with reverence

Yet found myself in a labyrinth of loneliness

Imprisoned within a fortress of wealth and fame

The price I had paid was more than the gain

I had lost in life by bartering happiness for success

And now lonely I am destined to walk life’s trail

With not a soul to mourn me at demise…
